Why Chennai Kids score better.....

It’s been more than a month since my first and the last blog entry and even though I had many things to write on but it was my good old friend called “Laziness” which kept me from doing so.  Anyways with just 90 minutes to go before Amitabh Bachchans birthday (god knows why channels had his birthday countdown showing..Unbelievable) I thought I shall get down to writing something.

I will not write about football this time because my beloved Arsenal is doing their level best to ensure that this year becomes one of the most frustrating years for an Arsenal fan.  This time I’m going to share my thoughts on why Chennai kids get better marks than others (please note that better marks doesn’t mean they are smart always).

I spent 6 of my last 8 days in Chennai and before we talk about the city I want all Delhi people to learn Accidental Mannerism. Not sure if such a word exists or if it makes sense but what I’m trying to say is that even if you are involved in an accident, there are certain manners that you should have.  One of them is that incase you bang your car in the middle of a flyover then please ensure that either your car flips over and falls on the road below or it is still in a running condition.  It can get absolutely irritating for people trapped on a flyover because of your car not moving, especially when there is a flight to catch!!!!

Well my first day in Chennai was full of surprises, Good, Bad and the Ugly.  Good was when my cab guy asked me “sir aapko hindi nahi aata”.  This was after I was talking to him only in English because I was told by experienced travelers that do not speak Hindi in Chennai. My instant reaction was “oh teri tut oh cheetah nikla”.  The bad surprise was when I went to my hotel and ordered a Dosa and the reply was that they do not have dosas and only Aloo Paranthas.  Before people start wondering what was bad in that let me tell you guys that Parantha was more of a thin crust pizza with no toppings.  The Ugly surprise was when I had to go to the Chidambaram stadium to watch the Chennai Super Kings play.  The stadium was awesome, the crowd was brilliant, the atmosphere was electric, but before all this I had to walk alongside a gutter to enter the VIP stand of the stadium.  Out of all entrances the VIP entrance had a gutter alongside; the only good thing was the Marina Beach 50 metres away.

Next day I got free early in the evening thanks to our skipper MS Dhoni who got his ad shots done quickly.
I decided to explore Chennai night life (“night life” is one word that youth in Delhi is obsessed with, hawaabaaz bache I tell you).  I was all excited (yes I can be hawaabaaz too sometimes) and got hold of this friend who works in Chennai, Bhuvanue. We entered this good looking place called Zara Tapas Bar and for those who thought that jugaad works only in Delhi well I got entry through Jugaad (thank you Vishal).  The place was nice and I was really getting into the “Aan Do” Kingfisher mood, sitting at the bar before the waiter came at sharp 1020 pm and said “Sir Last order”.  I thought maybe last order for happy hours but wait there were no happy hours.  That is when I realized that the place is getting shut and it is not because of some police raid (lizard lounge and delhi devils type) but all places in Chennai get shut by 11 sharp.
That night I spent in shock and awe, and come on it was quite natural wasn’t it.  Back in Delhi our “Cool” people feel “not so cool” if they enter a place before 1030.  I mean people in Delhi intentionally sit at home just to kill time and act busy so that they can also enter parties and places post 1030.  I so wish all of them were sent to Chennai.
In the end I would say that no matter if its Chennai or Delhi, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly exist everywhere.

Oh btw for those of you who are wondering as to how this blog answered the topic “why Chennai kids score better marks”, well it has answered that and you just need to read between the lines. (for that you do not need good marks but only common sense).
Au Revoir.
